Step Four: Windows Screen Files

Download instructions Step One Step Two Step Three Step Four

You will need to make one minor correction to your Windows Explorer options in order to see the Windows files. On the View tab of the Folder Options window in Windows Explorer, Uncheck the Hide file extensions for known file types checkbox and under Hidden files, check the Show all files checkbox.

The three files Windows uses for its screens are all 256 color Windows Bitmaps with the .sys extension. They are:

Startup Screen: Logo.sys Found in the root directory of your hard drive. (c:\)
Wait Screen: Logow.sys Found in your Windows directory.
Shutdown Screen: Logos.sys Also found in your Windows directory.

Rename each of your files to the corresponding SYS file and copy them to their corresponding directory.

That's it. Shut down the computer and restart to see what they look like.     Cool Huh?

Please note: This tutorial assumes that you are familiar with the process of creating the original artwork. This is not a guide to using graphics programs.
